About

Maze & Dean architectural consultants and designers, have a wealth of experience in the following sectors: residential: including extensions, new build, listed buildings etc and commercial: including restaurants, offices and shops. We also advise on the interior spaces and provide general architectural advice. The practice was formed in 1989 by its partners, Brian Maze and Brenda Dean and we amalgamated our two different areas of expertise when we formed our practice – Brian coming from a commercial background and Brenda from residential. Sadly, Brian passed away but honouring his legacy, the practice continues to provide a comprehensive and valued service to our clients.

Our Experience

Our experience is vast and varied, ranging from working within conservation areas such as Hampstead Garden Suburb where we liaise closely with Barnet, Hampstead Garden Suburb Trust and English Heritage to working on a range of different types of buildings in the West End and the City either refurbishing them or converting them into restaurants, apartments or hotels. But we are not limited to London and its suburbs – we have undertaken projects in Essex, Surrey, Kent, Cambridge, Suffolk and overseas.

Our ethos is communication. First and foremost we listen to our clients. Once we have met and understood their requirements, we participate in conversation and the resulting communication of ideas leads to a successful project. This, in turn, results in a happy client.

Services

Maze & Dean are able to provide a full service from design to completion. We are also happy to offer any part of that service appropriate to our client’s needs.

Initial Design and Advice

Initially we meet the client, take the brief and advise on the best way to achieve the desired objective. We provide sketch schemes for discussion after which the final proposal is prepared.

Consents

We would, as appropriate to the scheme, make applications for Planning Permission, Building Regulations consent and any other consent required, such as that of the Hampstead Garden Suburb Trust or English Heritage.

Prepare to Build

Once the applications have been submitted (permissions either achieved or pending), we would help and advise our client on the selection of a contractor. We would also formulate and compile the documentation required, so that the contractor can gear up ready to commence works on site.

Project Management

After all the relevant consents are achieved and the date for commencement has been agreed, we would monitor the progress of the works on site. This would involve regular meetings as appropriate with our client, the contractor, any other consultant as necessary (eg: Structural Engineer), Building Inspector, etc.
